Summer Teaching to Advance Reading Success
Designed with pre-kindergarten through first graders students in mind, the Summer Training for At-Risk Students (STARS) Program provides our community’s youngest scholars with the head start they need to succeed. Over the course of six weeks, this half-day educational program focuses on key social and academic skills, improving student performance by raising confidence and encouraging excellence.
However, preparing struggling students for schoolroom success is only part of the STARS mission. Mothers and fathers are required to participate in weekly Parenting Skills classes as well, giving entire families an opportunity to learn together.
STARS is a proven curriculum, developed more than 17 years ago in the classrooms of Leopold Elementary School and funded in part by the Madison Metropolitan School District, Altrusa International and the Madison Community Foundation.
