At the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute, we believe things can change for the better. We can improve our cities, schools and neighborhoods. We can change the entire community for Black people, for Wisconsin, for everyone. We can start today.
The numbers are clear
In state after state, our nation’s Black population still struggles to achieve the same social, economic and educational successes shared by so many Americans. Wisconsin is no better. In fact, it is often worse. Just a small portion of our state’s population, Blacks still manage to lead their fellow citizens in poverty, in imprisonment, in teenage pregnancies, in poor educations and even poorer healthcare.
